A Tenovus Foundation PhD studentship with a flexible starting data is available in the laboratory of Professor Andrew Sewell within the Department of Infection, Immunity and Biochemistry at Cardiff University School of Medicine. This project will involve using enhanced T-cell receptors to target cancer. Initial results are extremely promising and indicate that we manufacture T-cells that are >100X better at killing cancer cells than anything the body can produce naturally. We are also working with Immunocore Ltd to use soluble high affinity TCRs to eradicate cancer cells. This project is expected to produce extremely significant results. Relevant Clinical Trials are planned to take place at the University of Pennsylvania.
Our laboratory has been awarded over £5 million in funding in the last 6 months and currently incorporates a number of exclusive state-of-the-art technologies. This opportunity would suit an outstanding, self-motivated candidate. Most of the PhD students in our laboratory publish upwards of eight high impact papers from their thesis work and have gone on to gain their own fellowships and run their own laboratories.
To apply, please send a cover letter and your CV to David Cole (email link above) by 27th February.
More information about our research can be found on our website (www.tcells.org).
Please note that this studentship is only available to UK/EU nationals. The three year tax-free stipend is on the Medical Research UK scale: Year 1 £13,290; Year 2 £13822 and Year 3 £14,375. The student will be expected to register for their 3-year PhD on April 1st, 2010.
